Childress' teams still in the running   [READ MORE]

Martinsville Speedway, a half-mile loop wide enough for at least two drive-through windows, induces rude behavior and demolition attitudes that can destroy Sprint Cup title contenders.

Driver Kevin Harvick and owner Richard Childress understood the elements long before Sunday's 500-lapper, a pivotal event in their comeback drive. But knowledge seldom translates into power with so many cars crashing, as battered Matt Kenseth discovered.

Discretion, decent luck and good timing will take you a long way. The formula helped Harvick finish fourth behind winner Tony Stewart. The formula also helped Harvick move into the No. 3 points position, 21 behind leader Carl Edwards and 13 behind Stewart....

Ty Dillon Earns 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Championship   [READ MORE]

TOLEDO, OHIO (October 16, 2011) -- Richard Childress Racing's rookie driver Ty Dillon and the No. 41 Bass Pro Shops/Hemelgarn Enterprises Chevrolet team claimed the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Championship at the drop of the green flag in Sunday afternoon's 200-lap season finale race at Toledo Speedway.

The start of the Federated Car Care 200 was pushed back by two and a half hours due to rain. When track officials displayed the green flag just after 4:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Sunday, they also displayed the yellow flag, indicating to the starting field to maintain a cautious pace as the track was still wet. Green-flag only racing commenced on lap 42 and Dillon drove to the inside of the race leader to take the point position. He remained in the lead until lap 63, when the inside line was slowed by a lapped car, allowing several competitors to slip by on the outside. The High Point University freshman attempted to regain the race lead on lap 196 of 200, but the race leader got loose in the middle of turns one and two and spun in the process, prompting ARCA officials to display the yellow flag. The caution extended the race past its advertised distance and set the stage for a two-lap shootout to the checkered flag. Dillon restarted the race second on lap 199 but was unable to gain any additional positions, finishing second in the No. 41 Bass Pro Shops/Hemelgarn Enterprises Chevrolet. The young driver is the first rookie to win the ARCA championship since 1995....

The $10,875 triumph was Richards’s ninth of the 2011 World of Outlaws Late Model Series campaign, matching the national tour’s single-season win record established by Scott Bloomquist in 2004. It also was his 37th overall victory, moving him into a tie with Billy Moyer atop the circuit’s all-time list (1988-89, 2004-present).

In addition, Richards pulled closer in the ’11 WoO championship battle to points leader Rick Eckert of York, Pa., who finished fourth. The two-time defending tour titlist left Charlotte trailing Eckert by a mere 14 points with three events remaining on the schedule. And perhaps most notably, the victory allowed Richards to honor a fallen family member.“This win goes to my Uncle Roger,” Richards said of his father Mark’s older brother, who passed away last week. “He got my father started in racing and he was a huge fan and a huge supporter of our racing....
